The Multi-year Plan for Improving Central Government Information Management prescribes that all government organizations must implement a method for email archiving by 2021, whereby in principle all email from civil servants is kept for a period of ten years. After that period, the e-mails are either destroyed or transferred to the National Archives. To meet this need, the Guide to "Retention of e-mail Central Government" developed. This guide forms the basis for the storage, selection, destruction, transfer and archiving of e-mail at the national government.
